Review: Lovehoney Mains Powered Deluxe Magic Wand

She Says:

I've been lusting after a wand vibrator for several months now.  It's fair to say that I found it hard to control my excitement when I received an email at work from the lovely people at Lovehoney informing me that a Lovehoney wand was on its way to me in the post for testing!

The Lovehoney Mains Powered Deluxe Magic Wand, is as the name states, mains powered.  For me this is a massive selling point.  I am a bit of a vibration junkie – I like my vibrations to be continuous and strong, so the power appealed to me in that sense.  Also, we get through a ridiculous number of batteries (re-chargeables never get up to the full power of one-use ones in my opinion), which not only costs us a lot of money but is also pretty bad for the environment.  It comes with a 1.8m long lead, which is fairly long making it easy for most people to access it’s immense power from most locations in their house.  However, if like me your house is pretty sparse in plug sockets, a longer lead would be a useful addition to it’s design.

Like all wands this is rather large, in fact it’s a bit of a monster – but isn’t that part of the appeal?  The iconic design of the Hitachi Magic Wand has been glorified so much in the porn industry that the object has (at least in my opinion) gained some sex appeal of its own. Although this Lovehoney Wand isn’t an exact replica of the Hitachi, it certainly emulates it’s retro design and is in my opinion a very beautiful object in its own right.

Although large, I find the wand to be very ergonomic, I have quite small hands and don’t have any problem grasping it during play.  The scrolling dial that is used to turn it on and off as well as adjust the vibration levels, is extremely easy to use.  I find this particularly pleasing, I hate toys that you have to faff about with to get the speed settings just right – I would in fact go as far to say that this is the most ergonomically designed vibration controller I have come across yet.  Rather than there being discrete vibration settings, there is a continuous scale which starts from a very low rumbly frequency and goes all the way up to a very high and intense vibration.  This means that it is very easy to adjust, and readjust, the vibrations to a level that you desire at any given time.

The handle of the wand is made from a hard plastic with a textured finish. The head is from a slightly softer and fairly smooth but matte finished plastic.  It is easy to wipe clean using sex toy spray and a damp cloth – but remember this is an electrical device so can’t be submerged under water! As the wand is for external stimulation only, this type of superficial clean should be more than adequate.  However, if you are particularly concerned about this, there are various attachments that you can buy for the head which you can remove and sterilise.  I tend to prefer plastic vibrators for clitoral stimulation over silicone as it doesn’t absorb the vibration quite as much so the same power motor gives a stronger sensation.

The wand is like nothing I’ve ever tried before, the vibrations are very powerful and extremely rumbly.  I’ve heard people describe wands like this before, ‘rumbly’, and I didn’t really understand what they meant until I tried this for myself.  The closest thing I can liken it to is perhaps sitting on top of a washing machine on full spin, or on one of those power plates at the gym – but with the vibrations directly aimed at your clit.  I’m very fussy when it comes to positioning of vibrators for clitoral stimulation, but with this I don’t have to be as the head has a large surface area with an equal distribution of vibration power, making it easier for Alex to pleasure me in this way. It is also (unsurprisingly) pretty noisy - but who cares, you're probably going to be even more noisy than it is once you're using it!

The first time I used the wand it did take me a very long time to orgasm.  I think this was half because I was getting used to a completely different type of vibration sensation down there, and half because I was a bit anxious, wondering if it was going to live up to my expectations.  However, the wait was worth it and the orgasm was VERY intense.  My time to climax has decreased since then and is now comparable with other toys I own, the intensity of climax though hasn’t decreased, it makes me come VERY hard. Due to its rumbly nature it doesn’t ‘numb’ me in the way other vibrators can do, meaning multiple orgasms are easily achievable.

I’ve also tried using the wand alongside silicone dildos.  By inserting a dildo and then touching the wand to the base, you instantly get an internal vibrator.  I found this worked particularly well anally.  Anal vibrations are not something I usually go for, but the rumbly nature of the wand allowed for a very pleasurable experience indeed.  As I’ve said before, g-spot stimulation doesn’t really do much for me – but if you enjoy g-spot vibrations I would recommend trying out the wand with a silicone dildo in this way.

As you probably know, the Hitachi Magic Wand was developed for use as a body massager rather than a sex toy.  The Lovehoney wand may have been developed as a sex toy but it certainly performs well as a body massager too.  The long handle means that it’s fairly easy to get to those hard to reach places (your back for example) and the vibrations are extremely relaxing.

So, what is next for me and my wand?  Attachments!  I’m really keen to try out some attachments for the wand to see if they can augment my experience with it even further!  Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on some in the near future, and of course, reviews will be on here once I do!

I had very high expectations for the Lovehoney Mains Powered Deluxe Magic Wand, and I am tremendously pleased to report that I have not been disappointed.  This toy gives a very different vibrating sensation, intense orgasms, is sold at a very reasonable price from an excellent retailer, and in my opinion is something that should form part of every sex toy collection.

He Says:

I think it would be fair to say that this is a toy aimed primarily at women. But I have never let this stop me before goddamn it, and I'm not about to start now.

These wands style vibrators were originally and still often are sold as muscle massagers. So how does this actually work for that function? Having recently started going to the gym on a regular basis, I currently have plenty of aching muscles to put this to the test. The results of my experiment were positive I am pleased to report. On a low setting the vibrations were fairly relaxing, but still seemed to have a decent amount of strength behind them. On a higher level, the vibrations pretty much just numb the area, so are good if it is painful rather than just sore.

I also tried this on my cock. I found this extremely relaxing, but not at all arousing. I could not take this stimulation for very long even at low speed, and ended up feeling a bit used and abused afterwards. It transpires that although I am a size queen with dildos, I am definitely not a power queen with vibrators.

Having tried a couple of different vibrating butt plugs recently, I had a cunning plan (no doubt highly unoriginal) of pressing this against an inserted anal dildo to transform it into a prostate massager. This worked very well on a technical level. Using the Tantus Acute in this fashion, which as I have recently mentioned presses nicely against my prostate, I was able to get a lot of power from the wand to my prostate. But the level of vibration was such that it pretty much just numbed the whole area and I wasn't able to get that turned on from this.

I wouldn't by any means buy this toy as a guy for my own exclusive use, but if your partner has one then I would encourage you to have a bit of a play around with it in a couple of different ways. I certainly found this relaxing, though sadly not quite as orgasmic as Lucy.

We'd like to say a massive thank you to Lovehoney for sending us this wand to test - it's already had a lot of use, and it certainly has much more to come (hehe)!
